I have upgraded to 1.3 today and it is working really slow, it basically hangs every time, it is even difficult to quit/close. I have a Nokia 6120c with Symbian S60v3 and I have been using 1.2.7 I think.

And I really liked it, now I had to downgrade to 1.2, because 1.3 is just not OK, and I couldn't find 1.2.7.

Keep up the good work, but please take a look at this problem

What do you mean slow? How many groups are you connected to? How many contacts do you have. If you were using 1.2.7 then you must be a beta tester. There is no change between 1.2.7 and 1.3.0 apart from language resource files.

Dear Palringo devs;

I have been using Palringo S603rdEd-v1.2 and recently I've upgraded to v1.3 The new version has 2 exotic behaviors:
1. The data transfer size required to login into palringo/gtalk/yahoo/facebook is HUGE! more than 67KB!! i use no groups and whatsoever. v1.2 consumes only 8KB for these 4 accounts. and after a while (few hours) the numbers grow fast even I chat with no one. I think v1.2 is much (x2) more efficient.
2. The new interface has larger icon size, It's really nice for S60v5 (finger) but imposes less visible content (number of items in lists) for S60v3 (D-Pad).

these 2 problems make me to go back to v1.2 ;-(

and finally searching through contact lists (online/offline) is totally missed! using D-Pad to find a contact is really tedious. BTW, Palringo is my favorite S60 messenger client for packet data connection.

Hi - thanks for the feedback. How many contacts in total do you have on your bridges.

dear dmitry; I don't know exactly how many contacts i have, but roughly yahoo (70) + google talk (90) + facebook (60) btw, why does V1.3 (S60v3) consume such larger amount of data? (in comparison to V1.2) I also think that power consumption is higher in the new version, i'm not sure. I will measure it (by nokia energy profiler) and report to you.

Hi

I have no groups, and I have about 20-30 contacts online on 3 different networks.

I am not sure if I used 1.2.7, but 1.3  for me is just unusable. For example if  I press down on the D-pad it takes at least 5 seconds for the cursor to actually go down, but maybe more. 1.2 does this right away.

Hi jakab. You mentioned version 1.2.7 but you are not registered as beta tester. Which account did you use to be registered as one. Please send you reply to simbian at palringo dot com.

Dear armjcv;

That was the amount of data which v1.3 consume at the login time (Palringo+gtalk+yahoo+facebook)
let's talk in numbers:

1. i closed all other programs, set my mobile in offline mode and tried to test Palringo v1.2 vs v1.3 (via WLAN).
2. I also disabled Location service in both versions.
3. these numbers are reported by nokia's connection managers and nokia's energy profiler:

V1.2: Total transfer 8.63 KB (5 buddies are online)
5min 34sec after: 17.14 KB (with few[10] lines of chat with a contact)
average Power usage: approx 5mA, 0.02W (offline mode, 3mW WLAN, 100% link quality, LCD off, no incoming message)

(uninstalling v1.2 -> installing v1.3(0) -> reseting the wlan/counter)

V1.3: Total transfer 48.93KB !!!! (44.32KB is received, 5KB is sent, 4 buddies are online)
5min 05sec after: 65.91 KB (with few lines of chat)
average Power usage: approx 5mA, .02W (offline mode, 3mW WLAN, 100% link quality, LCD off, no incoming message)

my conclusions:
 1. V1.3 uses much more data in loggin time (48.93KB vs 8.63KB), after login, the behavior is a little worse than V1.2 (approx 13KB vs 8.6KB)
2. V1.3 is as power efficient as V1.2 (I thought that it is a power leech, i was wrong)

i hope this helps.

regards

Hi Ugly Coyote,

Thanks for reporting the download issue. I think we found the bug so we'll fix it.

dear dmitry;

another problem is each "Facebook" chat string which I send, is re-thrown at me (from my own account and in a new chat session)!!
I have not tried Ver1.2 for facebook chat.

Does anybody else have the same problem?

Hi,

Could you write the steps to replruduce it please. I've just tried it  and it works fine. I used a simple conversation with a different account. You will get you messages back if you are talking to yourself but in this case you should get them in the same chat.

hi dmitry;

I made some screenshots from what I've got.

In a normal Facebook chat:
altalt

every string which I send, is resent to me in a separate session like this:

altalt

In response to Ugly Coyote's post about the echo, I get those a lot too. Sometimes the messages don't get received or sent to my contacts. FB is a quirky bridge to and from there. I've noticed that sometimes without logging into FB it will echo, and if you're logged into FB while on the chat bridge in palringo it'll echo even more. On top of it my contacts don't always get my responses nor do I get new conversations.

My gripe with 1.3.0 is that the notifications do not work under my silent profile which i have had set the same way before this version. The only thing that has changed on my n95 is the firmware which is the newest US version of 35.2.001.  So I'll be out and about with the notification volume and the alert with vibrate and I'll hear nothing and only sometimes with the normal profile. I will receive notifications audibly when I'm in the software, but the previous version didn't have to be that way. This release is still rather buggy.

Hi dmitry, sqeegie

well, IMHO the facebook problem is not exclusive to S60!! I also tried the M$ Windows (PC) and J2ME version today. the same thing just happened!! so i guess the server side implementation of facebook chat is buggy, all clients may suffer from that code.

I'm in agreeance with you Ugly Coyote. Sometimes as well it will log in and not return any contacts at all until logging in and out several times within a session.

It really doesn't help that FB changes things on users every three months or so to something different so its no surprise that it is buggy.

Hi Guys,

Our server team is trying to find a solution for FB bridging. As with regard to notifications - one will not receive any if the phone's vibrations settings are disabled. The same for the sound notification - Message alert tone is checked.

Dear dmitry;

I want to talk about 2 more issues:

1. do u have any plan to add the "search" ability in the very next version?
scrolling (by D-Pad) in long contact list is difficult and ...  :-(

2. as I remember, when 1.3 was released, version 1.2 automatically downloaded the new *.sis from your server without asking me. alerting for new version availability is nice, but I think mobile applications MUST rely on user confirmation for downloading.
I prefer not to download anything when I'm on an EDGE connection (I use WLAN for downloading)
would you please include this suggestion in your to-do-list?

thanx

The problem I have with the notifications is that I don't have any of that disabled.
