Just a quick note about the unofficial Linux client. You can see screenshots about it at http://blogs.palringo.com/andrew/ or visit the temporary homepage at http://staff.palringo.com/~andrew/.

This client is not supported by Palringo nor is it affiliated with Palringo in any way.

Hey thanks!

I saw on wikipedia that there was a native linux client available, but I searched for two days and couldn't find it. In fact, I wasn't even going to register until I found the native linux client. My company uses IM extensively for insecure communications. We have a mix of OS's here, but I run only linux and mac at home, so being able to have one client for my Windows Mobile phone as well as my linux, mac, and windows computers is very, very cool.

I just compiled your build, and I am about to test it out.

I'm sure you  all are aware of this, but the blog appears to be down right now, so I can't check that out.

Hi, sorry for not replying sooner.

The blogs were down for a while when you initially posted as we were doing some server upgrades (but as you'll likely know, they're back up).

The Trac site is currently down, but the latest SVN tarballs can still be downloaded from http://staff.palringo.com/~andrew/tarballs/. I'm in the process finding somewhere new to host the code (possibly SourceForge.net or Google Code). This will enable everyone to be able to keep a checkout of the code instead of having to keep downloading the tar files.

Updates have been pretty slow lately. Anyone that's managed to compile and run the program will likely have come across the issue of selecting a large group tab and the program freezing for several/many seconds before it is displayed. This is of course far from ideal, and I've been working on a new QGraphicsView based solution. This has sped up the loading of these groups several thousand times and it's now possible to open groups with 20,000 in about 1 second (that's on a 5-6 year old computer).

I have to re-work a lot of what I've been doing before I can commit it and having a working client still, so updates may still be a month or so off (espically since I'm off on holiday for 2 weeks shortly :D).

If any body has any Qt/C++ knowledge, then feel free to start hacking at the current code that's there and to submit any patches. You can email them to me at andrew@palringo.com. Also, if anyone has used a nice project hosting site, drop an email and I'll check it out.

Thanks
Andy

Just an update about the moving of QPalringo, it can now be found at http://github.com/espadav8/qpalringo/. There places to file bugs and a wiki to add any information you might find useful. I'll be placing the build instructions on the site as well.

I'm new to git so it may take a while for me to move over the tags/branches into a way that git understands, but this is rather low on the list of things to do.

Moving to git should also allow people to clone their own repos as well and work on it if you feel like, and to push any changes you make to the master repo.

Tarballs won't be created any more, mainly because you can just do a clone, but also because github provides tarballs and zip files of each commit if you really want one.

If anyone has any questions then just post away, or join the qpalringo or linux group on palringo when I can normally be found.

Ermph, I just downloaded and compiled it on Archlinux with KDE 4.3.2, Qt 4.5.3. It has no `make install` instructions, apparently, so I cd'd to srcdir/bin and ran ./qpalringo, and it ran but it's pretty empty as near as I can tell. Is it supposed to be useable? There's no way to login as it is... :( All of the items in the File->Palringo menu are greyed out.

Your right, there isn't a make install yet (I'm not happy enough with it to want to install it system wide just yet ;-) ).

It should be usable. I've been using it as I work on it :-) If you run it from the bin/ dir then you should get a load or output, hopefully there won't be much as it's loading and it'll stop after

Loaded - libircui.so
"IRC style plugin"

To login with this one you need to double click the Palringo server that should be visible, this'll popup the signin window where you can enter your details.

If you don't like the IRC plugin (and to be fair, it's far from finished), you can rm or mv that file and it should load the 'Default plugin' which will give a more 'Palringo' like look and feel and is more feature complete (as far as I know, the only issue is that messages on the 'Overview' list can't be double clicked to open them). You can signin by double the Palringo service again.

I'm not sure why I haven't enabled the signin option in the menus, I probable should connect this up at some point ;-)

Dear Andrew;

do u have any plan to update QPalringo on git server? is this project still alive?

I wonder why Palringo does not officially support QPalringo?
QPalringo brings their great IM service into linux, Symbian^3 (and afterwards) and Meego.

Is it the time to surpass S60 client and concentrate on Qt version?
I hope to see Qt version of Palringo in near future.
