palringo 1.0 on s60v5/n97

Some comments:

Palringo doesn't respect sound profiles - when my phone is set to silent Palringo still beeps.  There's no way to turn off the sound.  Ideally it'll do this automagically.

I'd like to be able to scroll and select through contacts at an accelerated rate via touch, and select a contact to chat with by typing in a partial name.  For example, to select myself I would type "itd" for "itdock" and the contact would float to the surface.

I would also like to see better use of touch on the home screen - right now you cannot touch to show message, change options on a service, or change your location preferences.

Oh and it just crashed. :)
I realize palringo is new but it's currently my best hope for proper instant messaging on s60.  Thanks. :)

Hm - we tried it on N97 from Nokia and we never observed the problem. I presume the application starts fine and crashes when you sign in. Is that so?

Hello , i have a Nokia E50 and i am using the latest version of Palringo for the symbian platform, and it would be great if you could make the program respond to the phone's sound profiles, the beep notification for a new message is great but once in am inside a chat i would like to be able to turn the sound notifications off, like if i switch to the Silent profile would be the easiest to implement, also you could make the screen flash if i am in a chat and the screen saver is on with or without a sound notification . I would realy like if you could use a lowder sound when the program is in the background so if i am on the street i could hear it (like a email or textmessage alert / or make it call until the user returns in the application)  but there is no need for the same type of allert once i am in a chat . Thank you for this great application .

great software, just a little usability issue

I would like to accelerate searching of contact names by typing portions of letters from the names, because I have so

many entries in the contact list

thank you

@willi42, did you manage to find out solution?

i've got similar issues on my n97,

i did reinstall palringo, tried to change default connection and so on but no luck.

whenever i try to use WIFI palringo just crushes after few seconds of trying connect (i've setup autoconnecting which is impossible to disable currently ;)) , what's odd - on 3G or gprs it runs just fine.

thanks for any tips,

SzuS

I think the 'crash' is caused by the lack of memory. You basically have too many groups in your list. Try logging to our website and removing some of them.

Dimtry, if you by 'groups' understand this what's available under MyAccount>Manage Groups then I'm member of none.

Backing to main problem, if I mange to keep Palringo not to use WIFI it works perfectly, so as I understand you trying to say WIFI stack causes memory problems ?
Can I provide you any debug info ? And if so, how can I do that?

Hi Szusik, the problem is not wifi stack. It looks like you are subscribed to a lot of groups with lots of contacts and your phone runs out of memory when it's trying to download your contacts. I tried to put a message box to notify a user when it happens but could not do it. Symbian OS just would do anything when it think that it does not have any memory left.

Abaset - the problem you have described is known to us and has been fixed. New update will be available soon. By the way - are there any French users that could translate symbian version for us? Thanks.

Dmitry, i use palringo with gadu-gadu network, indeed i have there lots of contacts, well over 100.

Nevertheless while I use gprs or 3G i have no problems.

Lately I upgraded my n97 to newest available to me firmware... well it looks like that if I'm only patient enough after few tries palringo will connect using wifi and it even works :).

So now problem narrows to situation when if i get connection slowly - palringo lives, if it connects quick (which using wifi on decent network is pretty easy) palringo dies.

I can live with that, maybe next firmware upgrade will solve issue ;)

Thanks

Hi - what do you mean it dies. Do you mean it does not respond you the application actually crashes. I think the problem is the first one. You just need to wait for longer for all the contacts and groups to synchronise. Let me know if it's not the case.

Well by "dies" I meant it disappears. You know, palringo just disappears from the screen and task manager shows it is not runing any more. No warning, no explanation, nothing.

Sequence of events is like this:

1. run palringo

2. palringo window shows info about choosing connection (i have autologin option, but this doesn't change anything at all)

3. I choose wifi

4. palringo disappears

As I sad before, after firmware upgrade I can have few rounds of steps 1-4 and if I'm only patient enough step 4 doesn't take place so I can use palringo ;).

If I choose gprs or 3G I have no problem.

As I also sad before it looks like if connection is able to be slow enough on start palringo manages to survive.

Hi - this is very strange bug. We don't have N97 here. The only S60 5th edition we have is Samsung Omnia i8910 (nice device) but I can't reproduce the bug on it. We'll try to get hold of the device if possible.

Hi szusik - could you please send us your phone's IMEI and the login you use to connect to palringo. I would add you to our beta testers group and send you debug build. I you could run it until it clushes and send me the log files that would be great. Send it to symbian at palringo dot com.

Thanks.
