I like Palringo & have used it for a while. But recently I realized that new Palringo create a lot of temporary files in my "Temp" folder. It corrupted the folder many times & make me Hard Reset may be around 10 times. I hope there is a solution to this problem. I hope any Palringo authorities read this & provide me with a solution on how to prevent the problem. Thanx, Richard (d4rkkn16ht@gmail.com)

What sort of filenames do these files have?

Roughly how large is each one?

Do you have avatars enabled in the settings->display menu?

Thanks.

The temporary files are indeed the avatars & info files for all of my contact in palringo (I have hundreds of contacts).

And yes,I enabled the Avatar.

The filenames is consists of random number / char.

some of it with .USER extension.

The size is very small from several bytes into several kilobytes (less than 100KB)

Can I ask how you know that it's the temporary files that are causing the problem?  Thanks!

After I install newer version of palringo (I forget which one, but at least lesser than 1.4.2 which allow Avatar)  my "Temp" folder keep on getting corrupted.

So I have to Restore /  Hard Reset every 3 days or so.

So I checked the "Temp" folder content before it get corrupted again & it's all Palringo temporary files.

BTW,I've moved the "Temp" folder into my 16GB microSDHC

In one occasion, the corruption even occured on my internal memory because my Polaris try to access the corrupted data in "Temp" folder.

Now I've turned off my palringo for at least 2 days & no problem occured anymore...

...but I like Palringo so I hope it can be solved :)

Can you help me? I'm tired of having Hard Reset...

BTW, my 16GB microSDHC is FAT32 & if I'm not mistaken there is a limit of numbers of files in a folder for FAT filesystem.

And my contact (ICQ,Yahoo,MSN & Facebook) contain hundreds of people (may be almost a thousand).

Can it be the cause??

Hmmm, the limit for a FAT32 file system is 65535 entries in a folder and the file IO code should just fail when it tries to create a new file if that happens.

Can I ask that you try the latest version of the software (V2.0) and let us know if you still have the problem?  That way I can debug from the exact codebase if there are still issues.

Thanks.

Do you have enough space to install Palringo onto the device itself instead of the storage card?

My Device has 60 MB of free space. My microSDHC has 6.5 GB of free space. And I installed Palringo on my microSDHC. I used to install it on internal memory & it corrupted everything. It was so bad that I couldn't even start my Polaris. The only solution is to flash the ROM (Hard reset failed several times) Edited by d4rkkn16ht at 23 Oct 2009 @ 18:29

Are you using an official ROM?  Sounds like the OS has bad drivers for the file system.

Yes,official wm6.1 ROM And the bad file corruption that happened when I installed Palringo on internal memory occured right after the auto update finished. I closed palringo,re-run it,but it couldn't start. Then I restarted my polaris & I noticed something odd has happened. My GPS stop working, everything run slower than usual & my "Temp"folder on my microSDHC corrupted. I fixed my microSDHC, then I checked the internal mem & found garbage char filename that I usually find on a corrupted filesystem. So I try to Hard Reset. First try, looks fine, but when it's done & reset it failed. My device just stay black after the words "smart mobility". Second try,it successfully started, but my GPS was still failed to start. Third & four try were all the same with the second try. So I decided to re-flashing the ROM & It worked. I restored my data & reinstalled my apps, but palringo. For palringo,I downloaded it manually & re-installed it on my microSDHC. It worked. For a few weeks everything seemed to be normal until I lost some data due to filesystem corruption on 'Temp" folder on my microSDHC & everything repeated just like before, except that the hard reset worked this time. This was the time when I found out what is the content of my "Temp" folder & reported here.

Sorry,I'm so busy working that I late reporting here. The corruption occured again on day 4. And as I remember,it also occured during auto update most of the time. But not on "Temp" folder, but on the Palringo folder. Can you add manual update feature? Right now I run palringo without avatar or any other picture to prevent corruption on "Temp" folder. Can you please help me?

The next version that we release to the Windows Marketplace will have auto-update disabled, since the Marketplace App looks after updates for us.

The latest beta version for Windows Mobile does do a manual update anyway - it doesn't commence the download until approved by the user explicitly.

File system corruption can generally only be caused by bad OS drivers, so I would recommend keeping an eye out for any official updates for your phone from the manufacturer, and checking that they support the type of micro SDHC card that you are using.
