Extreme Data Usage

I have three Windows Mobile phones on my cell account and all three had been using Palringo for chat between them.  I thought this would save money instead of using texting.  I was wrong.

We received our cell account and were shocked at the EXTREME data usage.  The data usage mostly appeared when our phone was in sleep mode or when we were not using it.  Sometimes data usage as much as 120 MB!!  I noticed that the Palringo auto update kept working, but didn't think anything about it.  I should have!!

I wrote to Palringo support explaining my problem.  I received this email from support@palringo.com in reply:

Hi sorry for the late response. The constant update will be the main
reason for a high data bill, we are unsure why this happened. We are
unable to check specific days for usage by your account. But it will
            not happen again.

When using Palringo though we go recommend getting an unlimited data package.

I wrote back to Palringo support asking that, since they have admitted that the usage was due to their software, they offer some
kind of compensation.

They have not replied. I have taken Palringo off my phone until I hear from them.

Where is their corporate reponsibility and who can I contact to force some kind of compensation from them?

A few questions:

How do you know that it was Palringo that used this data?

Were you subscribed to any groups where picture/audio messages are regularly sent?

When receiving the automatic updates - what file size did it report as being sent?

Palringo uses data. Simple.

You'll be charged for data used. Assuming that Palringo IS responsible for the excessive data usage, what amount of data did you believe it would use?

It sounds unreasonable to expect Palringo to cover your data costs- who's to say that you weren't using You Tube or browsing porn? :)
